Flight from Santiago to Auckland
Upon arrival at the airport the self service check in wouldn’t work and I had to go to the regular counter. Once I got to the queuing lines I was told that the flight was overbooked and if I’d be willing to take the flight a day later. As I didn’t have to be anywhere and they offered to pay for transfer, accommodation and some extra money I was in. So they did all the check in, gave me my luggage back and asked me to be back at 23:30 hours. The original take-off time was 0:20 but it had been pushed back to 2:20 which did make me somewhat nervous too.
Well back at 23:15 hours there were already a few others waiting who had been pushed off their flight the night before. They were quite keen to stay another night because the hotel was nice and the food really good. They had been told to report back by 23:00 hours by the way.
We didn’t hear anything from the ground crew until 0:30. And the news was disappointing to us: We were all on the flight.
So we did board and after a secondary bag search we were supposed to take of. Well that didn’t happen until half past three in the morning due to some maintenance problem.
At least I had chosen a seat at the emergency exit while during the pre-check in and I hadn’t been bumped off this one. So: Legroom!
With all the delays I didn’t land at Auckland airport at 4:20 in the morning like it was planned. Which was good as at the time we actually landed all the shops where open at the airport.
One of the shops important to me was the tourist information because they have the keys to the shower.
Towel rent is 10 NZ Dollar. Plus 5 Dollar deposit for the key. If you bring your own Towel it is actually free after you got your deposit back.
So: Always remember your Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. 😉
