Whakapapa (Fakapapa) and River Valley
First stop today was at The Chalet a high end resort. Which we of course did not go into.
Instead we did a two hour walk past a nice waterfall to get at least some exercise on our trip to River Valley.
River Valley is a farmstay in the middle of nowhere with some nice rafting and horse trekking. The other main feature is the offer of a very nice dinner.
Only trouble: There have to be 8 people signed up for it. And don’t you know it: At the time the driver phones it in there are only 6 people on the list. Never mind the 8 people picked up later that all signed on. A warning from the driver that we are two people short before calling it in was too much to ask as well as it seems.
Yes it is about food and yes I am blaming him. I did not starve as I always carry some reserve food on me – but still.
As a result I was pissed from the moment on he made the announcement at the last toilet stop where you couldn’t even by any extra stuff all the way to the next day. Still am.
What else was there to do? There was a pulley construction that you could use to get to the other bank where a steep path went up the other side.
And you could try to find a walking path to some waterfalls which I did not find.
And you could play boule. Which a nice couple from England who where on their honeymoon did. They invited me and it was quite fun. Don’t know if we always played by the rules though. 😉
