A night with the Maori
Tonight be had the chance to sleep on a reconstructed Maori village (with a few addons) and eat some hangi (dish cooked in the earth).
After a more informal greeting by our hosts we got the chance to try our hand at a few stick games and some flax production. Of course only after we settled our gear in one of the two bunkhouses.
After the more formal reception with other guests we where shown through a made up village with different traditions as houses.
At most of the “houses” some visitors where asked to try it out. (The tattooing being the exception.)
Afterwards we did get a cultural presentation with different instruments, a love song and a Haka.
And then it was time for dinner!
Sheep, chicken, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots slow cooked in an earth oven. Some mussels and salad added to it. And all of that as a buffet. So you could get seconds or thirds.
After dessert it was time for the other visitors to leave and for us to go to the bar and the hottubs.
Unfortunately one of the tubs was broken and quite cold. So we had to cram in more people into the remaining two.
While I was to bed a small fight with funny comments broke out in the other house as we where told the next day.
I for myself had a very good nights sleep and an early morning.
